Booking a time slot does not activate the card yet. The digital City Card works exclusively through the I amsterdam City Card app, so you won't receive a physical card. Only activate the card once you're in Amsterdam and ready to visit attractions. Make sure your smartphone is sufficiently charged, otherwise you won't be able to access your digital card anymore. Through the app, you can transfer the card to a family member or friend once; a second transfer is not possible. At some museums you need to reserve a time slot in advance; you'll find this on the time slot page. You gain access to included locations by showing the card (physical or digital) at the ticket counter. Public transport by GVB (metro, tram, bus, ferry) is checked in and out using the QR code in the app. English is widely spoken in Amsterdam, by approximately 90% of the population at nearly native level.
